How do people feel about this Wiki being locked down so that only Registered Users can post comments and edit pages?

Personally, I like the sense of community that is created by people being able to take pride in their contributions. It also helps with regard to communication. Sometimes I see "A Wiki Contributor" post a question and I can't help but think:

  • Should I help someone that can't be bothered to create an account?
  • If I spend time replying to this question, will I be wasting my time since there's no way to know that they come back to this specific page and see my response.

Should people be forced to Register in order to participate?

Should the MAA Wiki be locked down?

The poll was created at 06:52 on September 6, 2012, and so far 26 people voted.

On the one hand, there are lots of benefits to become a Registered User and I'd like to think that people will see the benefits and decide to become a Registered User off their own bat...

On the other hand, the more people that become Registered Users, the more this Wiki will have the opportunity to grow.

What do other people think?
