Introduction

Pre-Season 13

Season 13 was the season I said I was going to reach Adamantium, and even more Vibranium for the Empowered Bruiser Armor, giving that I don't have any good Bruiser Armor, since I was new in the game by Season 3 (still made it Daimond and got Angolob haha), and I had to work on Season 8's finale, but I told myself that day, I'll bring my A-Game on Season 13 (following the PD's pattern I could easily conclude it'd be S13).

Plus, out of the Empowered Armors, the Infiltrator (Free counter), Bruiser (Free enrage) and Tactician (Free extra turn (?)) seem like the best ones to me. I even prepared myself to spend 144gold (hardly saved) in a full armory of 2g gold items to be ready for everything (not like it was really necessary, but that was my compromise to get it).

Season 13

37 days of PvP madness, lasting longer than any other season yet. It ends on MY birthday. Monday, Jan 27. I was expecting PvP to end the week before my b-day, or two weeks, but this unexpected twist of longest PvP ever made, screws so bad with my plans. LOL happy birthday to me. :)

We'll see what can I do to play that day, but I'm feeling I won't be reaching Adamantium or may not even Vibranium for my Empowered Armor, unless I play A LOT on the previous day and reach a ridicoulous rating (I'm talking over 2k here, and may not be enough), or I decide to go out later on in the night AFTER PVP is over (so nerd, much playdom, wow), anyways, for now, I won't spend any gold in 2g items, due to the uncertainty of not being able to play last day (the only one that matters).

Anyways, looks like they'll sell the old Power Armor Blueprints, so I may save up my gold and get the bruiser AND infiltrator instead of burning it in armory items (which will be free next season in roulette, and overpowered by some other new 2g items).

Setups and Strategy

Offense

Mockingbird + Havok

Setup hasn't changed since last PVP season:

  • Agent (L300):
    • Generalist's Commander Trench
      • Mystic
      • Synthetic Cube
      • Warbringer Axe
      • Scroll of Angolob
  • Mockingbird (L13):
    • Morale Boost
    • Street Fighting
  • Havok (L13):
    • Phased Frequencies
    • Skullthumper

This setups works perfectly fine against pretty much everything, even a full tactician team. Don't worry about Havok, he can deal with them; with his L6 everybody gets exhausted, dealing with the Tactician's advantage against Blasters, and most quick actions, which the AI loves to use, it also has Pressure Points, for Mockingbird's L9 to exploit. Add on top of that MB changing class to her advantage and maybe granting her an extra turn while doing so (and maybe even anoother extra turn for havok because Uncanny Coordination), and placing Weak Point on everyone for her deadly crits, how could this go wrong? Add the agent just being annoying with the Gen armor (since he's mostly support), Cube, Mystic and SoA and you're good to go, I also have WBA for extra attack power / accuracy purposes.

Other approach (the one I use the most) is one shot stuff (usually the Cube Agent first, of course). For that means I have two choices:

  • Mockingbird's L6 (Quick Action, everyone gets Weak Point, MB gets Critical Intel to change class on her advantage) -> L1 (guaranted hit/crit thanks to Weak Point, class advantage against his opponent, and applies Pressure Points) -> L9 (if Tactical Insight procs, which it does most of the times, she gets another turn, so she exploits the pressure points, sadly this time it can be dodged by the cube, since the weak point got consumed already). Strap a Close Empowered Iso on her to add High Crits to her Deadly Crits on L1 and L9, and an Inspiring Empowered Iso for more stats. Trust me, she'll hit like a truck.
  • Havok's L9 -> L2. Piece of Cake. Don't worry about cube, or low accuracy, strap an Unavoidable Empowered Iso (the 10g blaster gem) on Havok and you'll never miss that 1 shot. Don't worry either by Kicks Like a Mule on his L2, he can get an extra turn to get rid of that debuff, with his Uncanny Coordination passive, just make sure to use lots of single target attacks with the other hero or agent. I also added the Surprising Empowered Iso on him just to be annoying.

Dealing with the Cube

What about the opposite Agent's Cube? Simple, learn how to nullify it (if you can defeat the agent even before he uses, 20 points for you):

  • Reality Hacking: Mostly annoying, and the main reason you have to get rid of the agent first. though it also can be nullified: Catastrophic, Ethereal and Psychic attacks, True Strike, and Targetting Effects will help you.
  • Blackest Void: Get rid of it as soon as you can. SoA and The Light Fantastic would do the trick, if you can't use those because cooldown, well avoid using single target attacks, and if you have to (for example, in my case Mockingbird doesn't have an AoE), try to use the least damaging single target attack, just in case it backfires it doesn't hurt that much,
  • The Light Fantastic: Agent should be dead by now, but ok. Despair or the very own Blackest void, if you can't use neither, try to use a low damaging attack, or an AoE which tends to be lower damage (in my setup Havok's L6 for AoE, low damage, lots of debuffs, or MB's L2 for single target with low damage and maybe a stun)
  • Improbability Field: Agent should be way more than dead at this point. But fine, SoA to clear up your bad and his good. Light Fantastic to clear up your bad, Blackest Void to clear up his good.
  • Atom Smasher: Seriously? He's still alive? Light Fantastic is your best choice, SoA does help as well, since Atom Smasher deppends on debuffs to exploit, both choices get rid of them.

Here are the different teams I've tried so far (may elaborate on them later, as I did with the offensive setup):

Lol looks like I have a thing with Magneto.

Progress Log

23/12/2013

Both Offensive and Defensive setup remains the same, tournament is just starting and I'm lazy. Giving I have 1/3 wins in defenses right now, I should reconsider that setup.

24-25/12/13

Switched Heimdal by Rescue (Generosity, Savant), may try QS (Morale Boost) instead, but for now I've only gotten 1 Defensive battle after the change, and it was a win, so I'll wait until the defenses start raining again, to see the actual win/lose ratio, because right now it's a fake 100%, lol. :|

Moar discussions about setups and strategy in the comments, keep 'em comming.

P.S.: Bruiser power armor isn't up yet, thought it should've come today, but it was Blaster instead for some reason. More time for me to think about it.

27/12/2013

Yesterday I finally got the Bruiser and Inf power armor, I figured I wouldn't be using them that much, since I'm using the Gen armor lately, but still I'm a completitionist, and I've always wanted it, and who knows? I may end up using them in the future in PvP. At least I know I'd use them in PvE but that isn't relevant haha.

Switched my def team again, now I'm running Magneto with BSQS with Offensive Fighter, and changed the Warbringer Axe with Beyond Corp Can Opener. Let's see how that goes. :)

My Wonderman should be L13 in 8 and a half hours, and after him it's going to be Doctor Voodoo. Just faced one in PvP and I can tell you, you can make a solid setup based on him.

Update: Wonderman L13, bought the Big and Fast eiso (and I'm running out of gold oh gawd xD). Time to try him with Voodoo. Sadly the deffenses are being too slow at where I'm standing, and I'm lazy to do over 5 wins/day to try to get to a more competitive zone to try my def team better. Offense stays the same for now, though I had my first two losses today, I'll attribute that to a lost of focus because a bad mood I was having at that precise time + bad luck/turn order.

30/12/2013

I've been having the slooooowest deffenses ever yet, I mean in volume, we're talking about not even 5 per day here. The 27th I had 35 Defensive fights, right now I have 45, that gives you an idea.

Because of this, I haven't been able to do proper testing on defensive setups, but oh well, since all I got with the 27/12 experiment was lost, I decided to switch it again, back to Magneto and Voodoo and lost the Can Opener by WBA again (and I got a win, wohoo), maybe I'll lose the WBA once again for a Quick Action or something more supportive.

I've faced some other Doctor Dooms here and there, and figured out he can be destructive for Offenses, not quite good Defense material imho. Since he's not L13 yet, my Attacking team remains the same. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I like one shotting stuff and I can do it pretty well with my current setup, in any case I could just tweak a little bit my Hero Bonus, for more Attack Power to be extra sure I one shot everything, or more health / defense for more survival.

Right now I have a balanced build:

Also, since I was bored, changed a little bit the format of the blog.

Update: did my 5 daily wins for today, and I got my 3rd defeat this season, by the hand of Magneto himself (and badluck/turn order but yeah). No wonder I'm so biased with him, lol.

02/01/2014

Happy New Year and all that, folks. Hope you had a great time.

I have great news, I tried a new team and after 24 hours absence I came home today to find this:

lQmTeaM.png

FINALLY it happened!!!. It was driving me crazy the overwhelmingly low volume on defenses and not being able to try out stuff as it should. The problem is that I wasn't able to test any good defense team like this. You see, I'm having virtually no problems with offenses, so from this point of view, nothing works in defense (except Magnetos, darn Magnetos are responsibles for almost all of my 4 defeats so far iirc), and with such a low volume on defenses I can't stablish anything solid, plus I'm too impatient anyways and will switch the team either way, almost every day.

Wonderman and Rescue? NOPE *see image above again*; the only good thing is that I finally got some nice volume on defenses. Switched back to Mags and QS, this time Generalist with MB's white gem. I like that bonus, and I like to get advantage in the first turn hitting hard, so QS is a good fit (also, moved my hero bonus for a more offensive tone).

Other than those teams and all the others listed above, I've been considering other of my Level 12s and 13s to try out in defense, maybe go back to classics like Black Widow, Phoenix, Captain America, Emma Frost, Omega Sentinel, Hulk, Thor, War Machine (I may get both of them new suits soon, and thereby try them at PvP just for fun), or some of the previous seasons like Ares, Thanes, Elektra, Heimdall, Rogue, Cable, Cyclops. Even try out something new like Loki, Spiral, Sabretooth, Nico Minoru (as soon as she hits 13). There's still plenty to try, and there's plenty of time as well.

In a more less relevant news. I've got a new name for my agent: Q09bGg6.png (I was saying random stuff the other day and I came out with that Palindrom out of nowhere, I figured I liked it and I'd use it somewhere, this was the place). So please, if you see that guy around, come say hi.
