Hi, everybody! I wanted to make this blog to list some references in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, those being to comics or anything else. I'll list here those that I can remember; if you remember any other, post it in the comments!
PS: The lists aren't in alphabetical order.
Moves[]
Domino[]
Domino's Spinal Sratch, Around the World and Aerodynamite are references to songs and music albums.
Angel[]
Angel has all of his abilities named from Biblical references.
- Absolution is the forgiveness after a sinner confesses his... well, his sins (I think).
- Rapture means the Apocalypse.
- Aspersio is Latin for "sprinkling", so it's related to sprinkling Holy Water during, say, baptisms.
- Impositio Manus means a ritual of "Laying on of Hands", which goes along with baptisms, blessings, etc.
(I know all that because I'm a Catholic).
Archangel[]
Archangel is pretty much the dark version of Angel; while Angel's abilities are named after Biblical references, Archangel's abilities reference only the Apocalypse and the Horsemen of Apocalypse.
- War references the Horseman of War.
- Pestilence references the Horseman of Pestilence.
- Famine references the Horseman of Famine.
- Death references the Horseman of Death.
Agent Venom[]
Agent Venom's moves ( when Under Control, and except for Advanced Combat Training) refer to his background as a football player before joining the U.S. Army. They are named Go Long, Bullet Blitz, and Hail Mary. I only know what Go Long means, because of that episode of Friends where they were all playing football and Rachel was horrible at it so everybody told her to "go long" instead of doing something. Ah, the 90's.
Gamora[]
All of Gamora's abilities refer to Warrior Abilities from World of Warcraft.
Rocket Raccoon[]
Rocket Raccoon's BLAM! and MURDERED YOU! reference to his catchphrase from the comics, "Blam! Murdered You."
Hulk[]
Hulk's Hulk Smash references the famous (and most likely only) line said by the Emerald Giant: "Hulk Smash!", and Thunder Clap is commonly used by the Hulk.
Effects[]
Red Hulk[]
Oooh boy, this part is going to be long. Red Hulk is filled with references to baseball... or maybe football... I don't know, I live in Brazil. #Notfamiliarized
Here are some of the effects that reference... the sport they reference:
- He's Heating Up
- He's On Fire!
- Boomshakalaka! (This was very hard to type by the way)
Deadpool[]
Some of Deadpool's effects relate to phrases or words commonly said on the Internet. Like:
There is one other effect of Deadpool's that reference something:
- Come At Me, Bob references Wolverine's passive ability
Wolverine[]
Wolvie's passives refer to famous lines said by him in the comics.
- Come At Me, Bub is something Wolverine usually says to taunt enemies or even protect people he cares about.
- The Best There Is references a very famous line that is always related to Wolverine: "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice".
Union Jack[]
Some of the effects granted to Union Jack by his abilities are famous phrases related to the British.
Colossus[]
Colossus'
Atomic Buster references some attack from some guy from some fighting game. I'm pretty sure.
Thing[]
The Thing's
Yancy Street Rules references the neighbourhood he grew up in, Yancy Street.
Scarlet Witch[]
Scarlet Witch's
Get Lucky references the hit song "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk.
Domino[]
Neena Thurman sure is packed with references. Her passive,
Get Lucky, has some differences to Scarlet Witch's Get Lucky, but still refers to the same song. Her other passive,
Something About Us, references a movie Soundtrack. And her
One More Time also refers to that soundtrack.
Archangel[]
His passive,
Eschaton, means the end of something so something new can take that someting's place.
Spider-Man[]
His passive,
Great Responsibility, refers to the classic phrase said by Ben Parker: "With great power, comes great responsibility". The passive for the Amazing Spider-Man suit,
The Web-Slinger, refers to one of Spider-Man's aliases (or nicknames).
Arcade[]
One of Arcade's passives (in one Group Boss class only; I can't remember which one), he had a passive called
The Cake Is A Lie. This refered to the game Portal, as it promised you a cake for everytime you cleared a level; which, you obviously didn't get. In the game, upon reaching the last level, there was a phrase that became very common: "The Cake Is A Lie".
Dialogue[]
Deploys[]
Some deploys feature really interesting dialogue. They can refer to anything: Circle of 8, meteor crashes... there are even some that refer to Aunt May and Dum Dum Dugan. Sin was also mentioned in a deploy before her debut as a villain.
Incursions[]
When you unlock Season 2, a dialogue session to explain Icursions will pop up. Nick Fury asks if the duplicates are skrulls, which Coulson responds to with a "no". The Skrulls are villains from the Marvel Universe that can shapeshift and virtually look like anyone. They have already infiltrated Earth and attacked it from within, in the Secret Invasion storyline (that took place in the Mainstream Marvel Universe; if it happened in the Marvel Gaming Universe so far is unkown).
Well, those are all of the references that I could catch. Can you catch another? Answer that in the comments! Thanks for reading!
