Who, When, and Why?

You'll see a lot of people here discussing which heroes to level and when. Usually it is strength-of-hero based or class based for PvP bonus, or some other in-game based approach. I propose an alternate approach. I believe your first priority should be getting your first 8 heroes in your list to level 12 ASAP. Reason? Jet stroke conservation. At the time of this writing, getting my silver nut is still over 10k more flight deck deploys. Yours may be higher or lower. I'll use mine as an example here. Let's look at that in terms of taps & swipes...

Assuming the Flight Deck as the starting point, the process of sending a hero on a flight deck mission consists of:

  1. Tap Jet to collect reward from previous mission
  2. Tap Jet
  3. Tap "Send Hero"
  4. (sometimes) Scroll / page over hero list to desired hero
  5. Tap hero
  6. Tap the time duration of the deploy

6 steps * 10k = 60k(ish - step 4 could be multiple swipes or taps) input strokes.

However, if your first 8 heroes are all level 12, lets look at what happens to that process...

  1. Tap Jet to collect reward from previous mission
  2. Tap Jet
  3. Tap "Send Hero"
  4. (sometimes) Scroll / page over hero list to desired hero
  5. Tap hero
  6. Tap the time duration of the deploy

You never have to page over, because your first non-busy hero will always be all the way to the left. You won't have to pick anybody, because the first hero in the displayed list is already selected. Viola, 60k+ inputs becomes 40k, and I've saved 20k+ taps on my glass.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • There are a few minor downsides, but none that negate the huge benefit of saving tens of thousands of input strokes (or more). I'm going to make the assumption that everyone has the ultimate goal of getting all heroes to level 12, so we're only talking about downside to doing it in the sequence proposed here. If you're of the mind "Hawkeye sucks, F Hawkeye, I'm never gonna level him past 6" or something similar, then there is more of a downside for you, and you'll have to factor that in for yourself accordingly.
  • First, yes, you'll have to level up Hawkeye, as well as Black Widow (I think she sucks too, but this apparently isn't as universally agreed upon as Hawkeye's suckness). As I said though, I'm assuming everyone has the endgame of getting everybody to 12, so I'm just making you feel this pain earlier than you otherwise would have. Maybe that pain would be lessened in the future by the introduction of some alt suit, so you may be out that theoretical opportunity.
  • Also, this approach will run directly in opposition to other justifiable, well thought out leveling approaches. Most notably, leveling by class preference for PvP bonus. For example, you may be jacking up an Infiltrator when you'd rather be doing a Blaster. Again, long term is everybody is L12, so you're only missing that PvP ATK bonus between when you would have liked to do that Blaster and when you eventually get around to doing that Blaster. Has anybody ever lost a PvP offensive battle ever? Nope. So you may be theoretically making your PvP life slightly harder than optimal for some period of time, but the net result is no change.
  • This all goes to hell if one feature that exists on other flavor(s?) of the game gets ported to Android: The "Re-Deploy All" button. That would take the 60k+ strokes down to just shy of 1,300. Scrolling through your list to dig up your L12 guys becomes a one-time setup, then you don't have to ever think about it again. With the current state of things on our platform, I'm not holding my breath to see this feature anytime soon, but I'd sure love to be wrong.
  • Your first 8 may be subject to change. I do not look forward to the day I end up recruiting Cap (Cap and Reed are the only two recruitable heroes I do not have at the moment). This will shove an L1 smack dab in the middle of my first 8 (damn you, CA, not only for being way overpriced at 90CP for yet another useless Tactician, but for not being listed toward the back of the list as "Steve" instead of up front as "Captain"). I think the problem can be mitigated as long as you're only polluting your top 8 with one little guy at a time. First, if you're buying in to this approach, that little guy will be training as often as possible, trying to pump him up to 12 as fast as you can. When not training, he'll be needing XP, so if you lump him in with your deploys, while forfeiting some silver, you will be picking up XP. Also, if you know you're not going to be playing for a while, send his ass on mission deploys. That'll keep him out of the list.
