Heroic Battle: Phoenix

  • Anyone actually managed to beat it?

I'm find up until she uses Skia Thanatou but the initial hit takes 1/4ish of my HP and the DoT takes 1/3 per round. I got a string of good luck in one try and actually procced her revive four times, but just got beaten to death in the end.

Once again, just like Mr Fantastic's HB, it'd probably be doable if the damned enemy didn't keep you weakened for the entire fight.

Anyone done better than me or have some tips to share?

    • Huzzah! I just got it!

I redid my ISO and for some reason the turn order swapped to Hellfire->Phoenix->Selene.

Stunned Selene first so that she didn't hit me with weakened, then I started the migraine mind-link combo. Got a tad lucky with a couple of stuns, then she hit me with Skia, I died but revived to the DoT, and Phenix Fire crit finished her off.

    • Same problem on standard (non-challenge) mode ?

    • Yeah, haven't tried on challenge mode yet.

    • I got very lucky it seems. On my 2nd try she used a magic attack instead of Stare of Abyss. did the migrane mind link combo then from there I managed to kill her well before she killed me. I also redid my iso's for health stamina and attack

        Loading editor
    • I KILLED SELENE YES YES YES FINALLY put the thing that when you rest it heals it helps A LOT since my regular pheonix didn't have iso it was easy to iso her up with health attack and evasion adn some defense just use mind link on the dude rarely the first time it stays for two turns which is wha tlet me win cause in both times i mind linkd him he protected twice though by the second one he attacked the rest helped A LOT but somenoe should counts all the turns skia tanathou is seperate and if it's consistent to see if it's one major cooldown of like 4 to 5 turns and use nix fire when she puts debuffs on you AFTER the blaster is dead.

    • Right. Managed it not too shabby, seems the fixed probabilities line up to allow victory if Phoenix begins the match, provided you use the Mind Link, Stunning technique with rests as required.

Did anyone (not counting those that used the Tact suit) who managed to beat it, do so without beginning the round?

    • I just did it again on challenge mode. The Soothing Rest EIso( the one that restores health when you rest) really helped. Also I learned if Phoenix goes 1st Selene will use the attack that applies weakened and will use the Stare of Abyss after 3 rounds. It can be done but it seems luck has a major part in it as even with going 1st and Selene using Stare of the Abyss after a few rounds I had to repeat the battle several times to do it again. If the Heroic Battles are becoming this hard I really am scared to see how hard Chapter 4's are going to be.

        Loading editor
    • This is a tough one, even for me.  I've noticed that sometimes, depending on how you spec your Iso-8, Selena does a set attack.  I'm trying to record every attack I'm doing so I can ensure a sure strategy against her.  I've also noticed that her attack pattern depends on your Iso-8 Spec.

See i knew selene did the stare of the abyss consistently also i also did that soothing rest iso and i know what you mean, have you gotten too ultron heroic yet i still can't pass that but i just need to level up panther once for that since the rest are already in lv9 thank god and same goes for mr fantastic

    • Doc Paradox has hit the nail on the head with the heroics. the AI and even the probabilities of events triggering is very much locked this chapter in the Heroics. It's not specifically iso-8 build alone though. I have found it to reset on restarting the mission, either via abort or completion.

Hawkeye's the biggest offender here, as even his alt's arrows come in specific order, not changing no matter how many times you try it, but they do change if you take different actions in the battle. The initial arrow, what I'm trying to use to gauge the set routines, changes if you restart the mission. I'm actually cataloguing the play by play of his fights here until I find a successful chain of events.

    • I think I understood: when Selene gains her buffs, like Focused, avoiding Skia Thanatou is far more difficult. I'm wasting a lot of energy and I have to recharge once every 2 turns -_- And when she uses Skia Thanatou on the Hellfire, and he dies, she uses the same attack ANOTHER TIME IN A ROW and doesn't miss -___-

    • PS: sent a support ticket to Playdom. If it's true that a lot of players are quitting because of the new heroic battles, then they're losing money.

        Loading editor
    • Please do not send a ticket.  These kinds of tickets only slow down support for people who are having actual technical errors or other legitimate game difficulties.  Go to the official forum and suggest dialing back the difficulty.  I'm sure there are already a number of existing threads there complaining about these heroics.  That is the appropriate venue for this kind of feedback, not filing a ticket.

    • Hm :/ If you say so... I thought they would never watched a forum!

        Loading editor
    • Yes, official Playdom representatives do respond on the forum from time to time, in addition to that being where they release the patch notes, dev interviews, etc.  It is an official channel for reaching Playdom to give feedback.  This wiki is not official.  Filing a ticket is for technical or bug support, not for saying that a particular level or feature is too difficult or not fun.

    • I burned thru about 250 Small Energies, but I beat the Phoenix Score Challenge. The key for me was Classic costume with the E-ISO that gives soothing rest (don't complain about CP cost, that was the freebie E-ISO everyone got 1 of). If I'd had her up to lvl 13, I would have gone with her P5 Tact outfit, as it would have been much easier to complete that way (Explain that at the end...).

Regardless, be sure you have at least 5 bars attack, accuracy, and evasion. Hit the goon with a lvl 1, then on your next turn, mind link him then rest to build up HP. After you mind link him, he takes Selene's next 2 attacks, and he will get confused for his next attack before gunning for you again. In the round where he protects you, hit Selene with your lvl 1. In the turns where he isn't going to protect, use your lvl 2 to attempt to stun Selene. Once it is down to Phoenix Vs. Selene, be sure to use Rest to keep your HP above 6000 as needed. Hit her with your lvl 2 to try to stun her, and spam lvl 1 while it is on cooldown. Anytime you get hit with a stare, Mind Link on SELENE. This basically acts like a SoA, wiping your debuffs and her buffs. I am not for certain of an exact value, but you want to finish her with at least 2/3 of your life bar full.

As for strategy when using her Tact Alt and Soothing ISO, start off hitting the blaster goon with lvl 1, then you should get your extra turn to go ahead and mind link him. Depending on turn order, go ahead and rest if you have taken damage, otherwise, hit Selene with a lvl 1. At this point, she gets combat reflexes, bypassing the Blaster's protect. On the turns where the blaster does nothing because he is trying to attack you while protecting you, even though he doesn't do anything, you still get the Tactical Manuevers Extra Turn. Again, lvl 2 to try to stun Selene, spam lvl 1 while it is on cooldown, and if you get hit with a stare, Mind link, but on the blaster this time. Take Selene down, then you can take your time recharging against the Blaster until your HP is high enough before taking him out. Again, untested, but it should work based on how I've been able to beat this fight much easier, just wiht lower scores, in the tact outfit.

    • What level were you when you did this and what was your ISO-8 buildup?  I was at level 10 and finally managed to beat her but not at over 30000.  Also, lucky enough to get Phoenix's personal ISO-8 the first time I beat her, might experiment with it the next time I try Selena's battle but with her own ISO-8.

    • Level 300 agent, Level 12 Phoenix. 2x Chaotic, 1x Steady, 5x Durable. 1x Recovering E-ISO

I got lucky on my last run and got her E-ISO, so I never have to run it again, but I may for S&Gs once I get her to level 13 just to see how tact Phoenix does then

    • and from my experience, its probably best to abort and restart the mission if selene seems to use only the 'Skia Thanatou' attack

    • I would agree with that Adira, though of all of the times I ran it, she only did that strategy against me a couple of times, probably 5% of the time of less. Most of my problems came in beating her with a high enough score.

    • That only happens to me if my Health or Defense status is low, usually 3 bars or less.  Once they are 4 bars, she only does it rarely, if I don't do Psi-Blast after awhile.

I tried Soothing Iso8 with lvl 12 classic phoenix, yet despite the above tricks, only managed to get a max score of 28,000. Would Challenge mode be better suited to get a score of 30,00 or above?? I'm a lvl 300 player & my phoenix's health, attack and evasion are at 5 bars and rest at 4 bars.

I'm glad that they finally gave us battles that requires some effort, but this one is too random.Winning is not extremely hard, but the fact you have to score 30000 to finish the chapter can be trouble.

    • If anyone is not at level 300 yet, you can always come back to the mission and play it in its Normal Mode, the level doesn't increase and Phoenix would be more powerful the higher your Agent's level is.

    • Just made it with Phoenix lvl 9. The first time I loaded the battle, turn order made me last, I Psy-blasted the goon and Selene made Skia Thanatou, goodbye...

So I reloaded the battle, keeping the last one in mind. Turn order was obviously the same, so were the ennemies' first actions.

Turn 1 - Telekinesis on Selene -> Stun, keeping me from getting one shot by Skia Thanatou.

Then I don't remid clearly, I know I mind-linked the goon and he took his Skia Thanatou (but I don't remember if I did it turn 2). Then it was Telekinesis when I could, or Psy-blast, or Rest -> Soothing E-iso (which allowed me to get near full-health).

I kept mind-link in case she did Skia Thanatou, but I didn't have to use it (that makes me wonder if she uses Skia Thanatou more than 2 times in a battle or if it just was plain luck). Weakened is not a problem, it makes the battle longer, giving you more time to heal with Rest.

    • What am I doing wrong? I have Soothing Rest, I use Psi-blast and Mind Link on the goon plus I recharge when I can. However, after 3-4 turns the goon is dead and Selene strikes Phoenix with Shadow of Death (Skia Thanatou sounds cooler like this), I die and resurect from Stare of the Abyss and next turn it's total death no matter what move Selene uses :(

What I find helps is not to link the goon right away. In my experiences, Selene generally uses Magike for the first 2 or 3 turns, so Jean's Mental Resilience passive should minimize damage. On the fourth move, use Mind Link to block Skia Thanatou(usually comes out on the fourth or fifth turn) and Recharge (Soothing Rest). After that, spam Psi-blast and Telekenesis. Once Selene is at a little less than half, she'll start spamming Ubyr to try to heal herself. Resilience passive will come into play again, and Psi-blast should deal slightly more than she can heal each turn, so it's just attrition from here.

    • I DIT IT! 40320 POINTS!

For some strange reason, my turn order was Goon - Selene - Phoenix. And after the Goon's death, Selene NEVER used Skia Thanatou anymore. I don't know if it's a bug, luck or what... but I won with almost full health.

PS: lvl 10 normal Phoenix with Evasion greatly boosted (a little attack and accuracy, a bit more health) with Soothing Rest EISO-8.

Skia Thanatou means Shadow of Death. and Magike means Magical (but as a reference to a second person, you magike meaning you magical)

    • I finally finish the Phoenix's Heroic battle with a score of 30000.  One strategy I can recommend is obviously equip the Recovering E-Iso and focus your attack on Selene.  Use Mind Link only if you need to recover you stamina and your health.  You want to defeat Selene first, afterwards you can then recover your health until its nearly full (probably around 5000 if you have a four bar health status) and attack the goon until he is down.  While he will attack you, if your defense is high enough, you can slowly, but steadily increase your health while he attacks you every time you recharge.  Once you reach near full, attack him, use mind link if you want to play it safe.

    • When u first start season 2 chapter 3 mission 4. Ecen if you did not unlock the option to play the heroic battle yet, the way the heroic battle will be played by the AI is predetermined.

Da hell even Phoenix's moves have predetermined stun procs even if it states a certain %

      SO

If Selene uses Skia Thanatou during the first 2-4 rounds, your best options are:

1.Insist to win and write down her movements so you use wisely each move eg control of the other guy or Phoenix's L2 with stun proc.

That way you will expirement BUT KNOW every move so you can plan accordingly and use every stun proc of Phoenix or every Skia Thanatou of Selene in your advantage.

      2. Simply abandon the mission and re-enter it... A much better solution because it is quicker and usually the AI will behave better if you do this (in my case it happened).

      TIPS:

      1. For the score do not recharge just keep attacking Selene until she is down and pray she will not use Skia Thanatou, because nothing can save you from that.

      2. Even though I said I would not play that specific heroic battle I have redone it just for fun. In the meantime I leveled up to level 13 my Phoenix and she behaves way much better than in Level 12. I never thought rising from L12 to L13 would make Phoenix so amazing during the combat.

      3. JNust go with her original outfit. Two empowered isos are awesome with one being her unique one giving her soulfire in her attacks, the other being the one that adds disruptive shots so u make sure they never misses. If you do not have the soulfire one just use the one that makes range attacks to critically hit.

GOOD LUCK!!! And yes Playdom did not play test Season 2 Chapter 3's heroic battles.

    • I think that this battle might have been rebalanced.  I played this battle today twice for the first time in about a week.  Selene seems to have had Skia Thanatou removed from her attack set.  Anyone else able to confirm?  Also did this change impact her appearance in chapter 2.1.5?

    • Finally did it, in original costume lvl 13, soothing rest n generosity.

After Selene is dead, just needed to rest, mind link every 2 turns to the goon until full health...

      Still ridiculous...

    • When they first put Selene on the game, Star In The Abyss was not even her super power. Now they want to keep adding these new super powers to these villain types to make them more difficult. They keep throwing this kind of propaganda in our faces to get us angry at it and make us spend more money on it to get things from it, that we don't even need.

        Loading editor
    • All this does is showcase how bad Phoenix is.  The battle really isn't that hard.  Both do poor damage and miss more than any others I've faced.  Phoenix damage is just that bad, single target for everything with her stun the worst 60% in the game(Emma hits more regularly), and then a level 9 that has a 3 round cooldown that can only be used after one of your team dies.  She flat out sucks since the last time they changed her.

Top that off with the fact you are fighting to add back Soul Fire to her attacks.  Utter joke.

    • Beat this finally. My Phoenix is level 12. I had to equip her original costume, load her ISO slots with Reactive Chaotic ISO's (with me being level 255) and equip the Empowered ISO that regens health when you recharge. On Challenge Mode, got a score of almost 36,000 once I made the above changes. Hope this helps!

Beat this finally.

Had to do the exact same thing, but it would only work when the goon gets the first turn :/

    • I did it on my first run : 36000 and more points.

The way I did it :

I am level 148 / Phoenix level 10 with Soothing rest iso and I have isoed her quite balanced for every stats.

My tactic was to apply L6 everytime it was available. First on the goon, and when he's dead, on Selene.

Trying to stun Selene only when the goon was gone and L1 only on her when the goon is still alive. I restored my health by resting, everytime I was under 75/80% of HP. This is the only way I could be sure to stay alive when Selene used Skia Thanatou.

And I played the L1 attack everytime she was stunned.

A very long fight for sure, but at the end, I had almost 100% HP, though she hit me 3 times with Skia Thanatou.
