Spec Ops 14: The Dark World?

  • After recruiting Black Bolt today I started to think about the next spec op....and considering 'Infinity' is only 21 days long...would anyone agree that they plan to do a Spec Ops based on Thor: The Dark World?

Obviously Malekith and Kurse would be major Villains within it...But my question is heroes...

Who do you reckon the recruitable hero would be? (the only one I can think of right now is the warriors three or possibly Heimdall and Odin)....

Also, is this the moment when we get Loki as a playable character, maybe a new skin for him? Obviously we would get him through lockboxes!

So let me know your thoughts!!!!!!!

    • I don't think they would release Spec Ops on Thor's movie. There is still 49.5% chance that they will release such a kind of Spec Ops, like Extremis' story was not related with Iron Man 3's story. I do think they may release new uniforms. If they would do so, I think it would not be on Spec Ops 14 or 15. Maybe 16?

    • Odin? Don't think so, bad move to include a guy that can go toe to toe with Galactus as a hero. What about Beta Ray Bill?

        Loading editor
    • Beta Ray Bill is not a bad idea though.

        Loading editor
    • BETA RAY BILL is actually a great idea! I couldn't think of any other Thor Related good guys :) thanks for that!

    • happy, Gambit? I think Wolverine, Daredevil, Union Jack and Shatterstar are waitiing for you.

    • Haha NOT DAREDEVIL :P You seem to know your stuff Superex....another question then....Do you reckon we will see Domino or Iceman anytime soon?

    • They will certainly do something to promote the movie. It's a Marvel Studios production, and the two MS productions since the launch of the game have had promotion tie ins. The game as a whole was a promotional vehicle for Avengers. Its apparently proved to be a solid promotional vehicle for other properties, while being worthwhile, in a business sense, in it's own right. Thor Spec Op... 70% chance. Hero? One of the Warrior 3? BRB? If he's not in the movie at all, where is the promotional activity? Also, he's not just a knock off Thor, he's got the exact same powers. There's not much interesting there. I wouldn't be surprised to see a New Movie Thor with new powers like the IM42 and Iron Patriot alts. I would rate the odds of there being at least a side quest and some goodies for sale/giveaway as being 100%. Don't forget why this game exists.

Yeah, just like when we saw the new Wolverine alts when The Wolverine was released...oh wait...

If they don't use the opportunity with Thor: The Dark World to do some special Thor stuff, they certainly won't do an X-Men Spec Op when DoFP comes out, since Fox owns the rights to it. X-Men and Spider-Man are in that sliver of ownership space where Disney is over a barrel if they ever want to get full rights back to all of the Marvel cinematic movie properties. If the X-Men and Spider-Man movies quit making money, control would most likely revert to Disney, but by that point, they would have to put in a lot of investment to re-launch them successfully. As long as they are successful, it would take a lot of capital for them to get those properties back home.

All that to say this: PD will promote the Disney produced Marvel Studios films because they are under the same corporate umbrella. But, they aren't going to do anyone else any favors with free promotion of what is essentially a competing product right now.

    • I'm thinking balder the brave for a hero (don't know why people never mention him, he's kind of important) , a new thor alt possibly and maybe loki as a lockbox hero like everybody has been talking about.

        Loading editor
    • I believe a comic event is going on right now called Infinity which this current spec op is tied too.  Just like the mentioned rescue spec ops was tied to IM3 so it's reasonable to believe a tie in to Thor 2 and next years Cap America 2 will both have spec ops if not more for em.

        Loading editor
    • It's either Balder or one of the Warriors 3

        Loading editor
    • No way Loki's going to be playable. I know he has a legion of fangirls these days, but he has never been even remotely heroic, and the Avengers know better than to trust him with anything. Enchantress and Executioner are LB possibilities.

For main hero, I'd guess Balder, Heimdall, Beta-ray Bill, maybe Thunderstrike(google it)

        Loading editor
    • Is Baldr even in the new movie? (I haven't read that much, been trying to dodge spoilers :) )

Personally I think Heimdall would be awesome, as would Loki, but I don't think PD have finished spinning him out as a Villain somehow. Odin (curse my keyboard for not having a Thorn) would be sweet too, I don't think comic book power level would make too much difference to including characters, since we have the likes of Black Bolt etc.

        Loading editor
    • If they think that they could make money off loki as a lockbox hero, they'd do it. and because he has legions of fangirls, they will make a lot of money off of him. also executioner and enchantress won't happen (at least for this movie) because they aren't in the movie at all (unless they are hiding them in the previews or something)

so, I'm thinking loki for lockbox hero (or face Scar's ultimate wrath), possible loki alternate so that he looks like he does in the movie, and not, well, like his weird green comic book self, thor alt, sif alt, and then warriors three / Heimdall (please please please heimdall) / some new hero that appears in the movie (so like if they introduced Balder in the movie, then it might be him).

But, I fear it may not be the warriors three or heimdall because they are not very major characters (at least in the first thor movie). It'd be like if for the Captain America: The First Avenger movie (if the game had been around then) they had given out Peggy Carter as the spec ops hero. Good character, but not really big enough. or if they had done Bucky as the hero (lets all pretend we DON'T know what happens to him (don't spoil for those who don't already know)). Although they are good characters, it doesn't make sense to do a spec ops with them as the hero at the finish line because they didn't have large enough roles in the movie, which is all some people are going off of if they haven't read the comics.

        Loading editor
    • I hope they rerelease valkyrie too!!

        Loading editor
    • @NINJAelectricsword: Yeah, but they did Rescue as the SO hero for the IM3 tie in. Pretty sure they can find some angle to work in anyone, even if the character only has a cameo in the movie.

        Loading editor
    • Thor and Sif alts, Valk rereleased oh and one more thing: LOKI @@

        Loading editor
    • @TheRavenHeart: Oh, I still haven't watched Iron Man 3, so I didn't know she had such a small role. Okay then, there is hope for Heimdall yet!

But the warriors three don't seem very likely because, well, there are three of them. Unless of course they had some new feature, like the character's names the warriors three and then the character's second ability is to like cycle to the next warrior. so like it starts with Volstagg and then you do the second ability and he runs out and Hugon comes in. then Fandral comes after and it is a loop like OS or Punisher. That seems unlikely though, although it would be cool. But I can't think of many other ways they could make the special ops hero three different people.

    • A Thor themed Spec Ops would not surprise me much, maybe with Hogun as the hero and Loki in a lockbox, but I am betting on one of the more supernatural characters showing up for spec ops 14, which will likely after all be released sometime in October around Halloween (we had exactly that last year with Ghost Rider)... A Thor the Dark World tie-in would not surprise me, but Werewolf by Night or Blade or anyone along those lines would honestly surprise me less.

        Loading editor
    • Let's do math. The current SO has 18 days left, so give or take it's going to end around Oct 13. 2 weeks of break time, or even 1 week. Oct 20/27. Typical SO last about 24 days. That leaves the teens of November. The Dark World releases in the US on the 8th of November, late October for some European countries and Asia. If they're to have SO for Thor 2, it'll be before the US air date to generate publicity. So either the next SO is going to be for Thor 2, or there won't be an SO for Thor 2 at all. Given PD and Marvel are both owned by Disney and there have been previous tie in to Marvel Studio movies, lack of a Thor 2 tie in SO will shock me.

Besides, JW did say something along the lines of having a Thor 2 tie-in in SDCC, "since we did such a good job with the other movies so it's possibly we do a tie in for Thor 2".

        Loading editor
    • I find the desires for supernatural characters to be released for Halloween simply discriminatory. It'd be like wanting Monica Rambeau or Jericho Drum to be released on Martin Luther King Day if you all weren't so biased against monsters. One needs only direction to the Daimon op to see that this is true.

It's stupid not to think of Loki as a lockbox character given the facts that we have in evidence.

      • He's popular.
      • He joins forces with Thor in the film.
      • Marvel have been spinning Loki as a more neutral Anti-Thor type for years. Heroic actions in Siege, reforming the Young Avengers, The Entirity of the Kid Loki saga, Avengers Assemble's recent episode even. Loki being played with as a hero is something Marvel are doing, like it or not.
      • He may be evil, we may not be able to trust him, he may betray us as soon as it's convenient. Didn't stop Satana now, did it?
      • Leave the unconvinced with this: If that's not a good enough reason for S.H.I.E.L.D., they can all line up to kiss my big unstoppable ass. You've got the Juggernaut Loki, whether you want me or not.

Oh, and I personally am fond of Tyr, who will be actually featured in the film, rather then the likes of balder or beta ray bill who aren't at all interesting in comparison to the God of War that's much better then Ares.

Alternative supporting theory to consider based on your points:

      • Hulk
      • Hulk in Avengers
      • Marvel has been spinning Hulk as a more anti-hero for years. Heroic actions in Planet Hulk, Avengers Assemble, and Agents of SMASH... Hulk is being played with as the most powerful hero with a conscious, like it or not.
      • His actions in World War Hulk could be considered evil but the whole story is about love and vengeance. He wasn't trusted going into that whole saga, but he has never betrayed anyone explicitly. He was betrayed and that betrayal eventually lead to him finally finding peace, only for that to be betrayed once again (by Miek!), which lead to his Earth-shattering rampage.

So, as a counter... if the ultimately and repeatedly betrayed Hulk can be a hero, then Loki as the ultimate, repeat betrayer could also be a (LB) hero (regardless of his Kid Loki reincarnation).

Making him an LB hero also opens up the possibility of a different looking Kid Loki alt, just like how Hulk has his alternate Avengers pose.

As long as his recruitment message or one of his dialogues has some version of "Then I need no longer obey you" from the movie, I could die happy.

Heimdall as hero and Loki as lockbox is what I was most hoping for, having Heimdall is going to be *awesome*! I'm going to be very interested to see what kind of abilities they give him, I'm thinking he'll need to have Protect abilities, as well as chance to dodge incoming attacks and providing targeted/pinpoint effects on enemies (given his whole 'watcher' thing).

Heimdall known as the messenger of Asgard because of his speed. He can run very fast and is somewhat like quicksilver, but Heimdall is strong too. He is the brother of thor and son of Odin.

This mean he may take two actions in a round and may have an increased chance to take the first turn. He may be a melee attacker and maybe his attacks will be stealthy. Unlike QS, Heimall may directly counter single target attacks and be immune to targeting effects. He may be an upgraded version of QS and Nightcrawler.

I don't think so. He may be getting two turns. But it's possible that the game focuses more at his strength than his speed.

I think you may have him mixed up with another Asgardian. Hermod is the messenger, Heimdall is the Guardian of Bifrost. He's probably going to be a bruiser with Protect and Counter abilties.

I agree with this assessment. However, I'd add in something like the Mahayuga's "Future Knowledge" buff.

(Bare with me on this explanation) Heimdahl, being the guardian of the bifrost sees everything. This idea can be extended into him seeing attacks before they come. This would play into the Bruiser Protect buff, but add that counter as well. Or the reverse... He sees the attack coming, counters THEN protects.

    • ok, so here is something about him,

Heimdall has superhuman strength. He has acute hearing and acute vision. He can hear a sap running through trees. He can see time as well as space. He once saw that an army was arriving to attack Asgard and it would take 2 days to arrive. He requires no sleep. He is an expert hand to hand combatant and has great experience in the use of sharp edged weapons.
