Designation: Professional Criminal
Criminal Record: Conviction, time served for burglary
Powers: An aura of “Bad Luck” that causes misfortune to befall nearby enemies.
Known History: Ms. Hardy wanted to follow in the steps of her father, a cat burglar legendary in underworld circles, and created the persona of the “Black Cat” to free him from prison when he was diagnosed with cancer. She invested some of her ill-gotten gains into acquiring “Bad Luck” powers from shady X Gene-splicing doctors. Though intel suggests she frequently assists those the media designates “heroes,” she has been accused of numerous high-rise robberies and remains wanted by the authorities.
Observations: “Although Ms. Hardy has been implicated in several burglaries she’s never harmed anyone who didn’t deserve it. She’s never directly allied herself with any criminal organization, either. She is a free agent and one of the best at what she does.
“Look, here’s the bottom line: S.H.I.E.L.D. is an intelligence organization, not a Girl Scout troop. If the Black Cat’s skill set is useful for a given mission I see no reason why we shouldn’t deploy her into the field.
“So long as her hourly rate doesn’t exceed the agency’s budget, that is.” — Maria Hill
