Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters Recruitment Report: Scarlet Witch

Gender: Female

Nation of Origin: Transia (in the Balkans)

Affiliations: Brotherhood (Magneto’s original version), The Avengers

Active Mutations: Difficult to classify. As best as I can explain it, Wanda is one of the world’s most powerful telekinetics -- so powerful, in fact, she mentally affects quantum units of energy that cause fluctuations in probabilities favorable to her. She has long called her power “hex bolts,” though that seems far too inadequate a term.

Passive Mutations: None

Hereditary Mutations? Yes. Wanda’s father, Magneto, half-sister, Polaris, and twin brother, Quicksilver, are all mutants.

Recruit Background: Even when she and her brother Pietro (Quicksilver) first battled my X-Men in Magneto’s Brotherhood they seemed reluctant adversaries; as was proven when they fled from under their father to join the heroic Avengers, the team with which they are now, happily, most associated.

Attempt to Recruit Made? Not yet. Even though she is a long-standing member of the Avengers, the Scarlet Witch’s incredibly high level of power has led her, not unlike my student Jean Grey, to be the subject of horrific mental manipulation by evil men. Most recently Doctor Doom drove her to a near-total psychic collapse; under his influence she nearly destroyed first the Avengers, then all mutantkind.

I feel she would be better off among her own kind, and the guidance I could provide her at my school could strengthen her psyche against any such attacks in the future.

Likelihood of Recruitment? Medium

Signed,

Charles Xavier
