Active Mutations: Magik has the ability to teleport by creating portals between distances she calls “stepping discs.” These portals can even traverse different dimensions… not always to Illyana’s benefit, as she learned the hard way at an early age.
Hereditary Mutation? Yes. Illyana’s brothers Piotr (Colossus) and Mikhail are both mutants.
Student Background: Illyana was kidnapped by the demon lord Belasco and taken to his interdimensional realm of Limbo. There Magik was schooled in the ways of sorcery, with which she has considerable skill. She created a Soulsword, which is a sword made from her, er, soul, that she can summon at will. She can also cause a suit of eldritch armor to surround her in battle.
Once she mastered these abilities she defeated Belasco and returned to Earth. Though six years old at the time of her kidnapping, ten years had passed in Limbo while only a few months had elapsed here on Earth. So she returned as a teenager having seen and done things her peers could only dream of. In truth, the adults in her life are having a harder time adjusting to her return than she is.
Headmaster Notes: Magik is one of the few students I feel inadequate to teach. I am a man of science, and thanks to her mutant powers Illyana has seen, experienced, and learned things far beyond the ability of empiricism to describe. All I can do is provide her with positive role models in the best use of her powers, and with her brother Colossus and the rest of the X-Men acting as a surrogate family, I am confident I can do just that.
